The Scotland Run - Day 2

After a hearty breakfast at the Golf View in Tain were we stayed we were up and ready to depart at 930am. It was snowing, ever so lightly. Back onto A9 and the first 34 miles to Inverness.

The snow/sleet go much heavier so full waterproofs and face mask were on. A few steady climbs but mostly flat, and as we crossed the Keswick Bridge the weather improved.

Headed through Inverness city centre, and passed where we had been on Sat lol. Then followed signs for Fort William. This is where the fun started. - in literally a 1 min split, I lost Neil who was following the route on RunKeeper. My phone was off. Charging. - I followed signs for A82.

I phoned him from the Caledonian Canal, to then discover we were both going down either side of Loch Ness ! - Me the A82 (right), Neil the B road on the left.

As it was 2 long for me to cut back we agreed to link back up at Fort Augustus - 33 miles further down.

So I trundled on passing some very nice scenery. I got there around 4, and it was time for a coffee and sandwich. And wait. - clearly Neil got the worse deal. Very hilly and he was now at least well over an hr behind. I was starting to feel the burn, so decided to push on, as I still had at least 33 miles left.

Passed through Invergarry, Drummadrokkit, then a long run to Spean Bridge. Stopped for another break, phoned Neil and he was now nearly 20 miles behind - gulp !

The last 10 miles into Fort William was nice and flat and very welcome. Straight to the Youth hostel and booked us both in. I then went to the local for a light refreshment and awaited my side kick who eventually got here at 930pm. A quick dinner then retired.

104 miles done.

Never stayed in a youth hostel. As I type this I'm in a single bed, freezing, been awake half the night due to a coach load of Swedish students making lots of noise leaving at 430am. I've nothing against these, but I like my home comforts. Never again. Lol.

Feeling tired and sore but determined to push on. After we sort our selfs today's target is Glasgow. With a big gulp. Another +100.
