The Scotland Cycle- Day 4 Final Push..

Woke up on Wednesday morning after sleeping like a baby for 8 hrs. We were staying at the Travelodge in the City Centre and the staff had kindly hid our bikes in the meeting room. Knackered, sore and with no motivation, got up and went for a shower and got ready. After 3 cups of coffee, was feeling much better and decided to give myself a shake and grit those teeth and make that last push.

Todays route was out by the Barra's, out towards Rutherglen, Hamilton, Larkhall and join the old A74 and the A74 cycle route to Gretna. - 89 Miles. Weather was still being kind to us, probably the cold was helping my legs.

Pushed out towards Larkhall, Neil got another puncture. Then down towards Douglas.... I was only 24 miles from my front door, and god I tell you I was tempted.... ! lol- then had that long long climb towards Abington, first gear, head down, along a long cold bumpy road.... the chips were down. 902102_10200477418090136_2143157061_o

At 40 Miles we relented and stopped for lunch in the Abington Services..

A good hr break some food fuel, I was feeling better. Following the route on run keeper we battered on.

Then this dickhead in a van nearly ended the run. Ive just seen Neil's video and did not realise it was so close. The old A74 is a road that literally you can travel for miles and miles without any traffic and we were subjected to a near miss because of the lack of due care of a tosser in a white van. Even the lorry he was over taken blasted his horn.

This part of the old A74 was getting monotonous and boring... Eventually got to Beattock where Neil went 2 miles the wrong way, and we must have been 3 miles apart at 1 point. - The road surface improved significantly and was able to get a good average speed of nearly 20mph for a good stretch. Now plus 60Miles, approached Lockerbie, and was starting to get the feeling of nearly finished. I waited for Neil then he went away out in front lol.

So the old A74 just kept going... and going..... and going........, went through Ecclefechan and onto the last 13 miles.

Eventually saw a sign for Gretna, 3 miles, and with 1 last push, and at 89 miles we reached this sign and I had the biggest smile on my face.
