Schiehallion Climb - Tues 5th June 2012
So the day after Ben Nevis I packed my tent up after a good nights sleep and headed East towards Dalwhinnie from Fort William for around about a 67 mile drive to Tummel Bridge. The Sat Nav was required here and took me lets just say a direct route over some far flung county roads...

After about an hour and a half I got to Tummel Bridge and went into a local shop to get some supplies and gain my thoughts on where I was. A short drive towards Aberfeldy, found me onto the Schielhallion Road, and 2 miles later I was in the car park which to my sup prise, at 1030am was nearly full.... Again clearly this is a popular hill...! LOL
Many of your reading this will ask why travel x amount of miles across Scotland to do this from where I was yesterday. - The reason is that this was the 1st ever Munro I did, back in 1987 with the 1st Mauchline, 34th Ayrshire Scouts during a 2 week summer camp to Kenmore. - 25 years had passed and I thought, it would be nice to do it again!
The name Schiehallion is an anglicised form of the Gaelic name Sìdh Chailleann, usually translated as 'Fairy Hill of theCaledonians' but may also be translated as 'The Maiden's Pap', or 'Constant Storm'.[1]
Schiehallion lies between Loch Tay and Loch Tummel, 10 miles north of Aberfeldy in Perthshire.[2] The mountain (3547 ft/1083m) is isolated from other peaks and has an almost perfect conical shape from the west. The view of the broad eastern flank attracts many visitors to the shores of Loch Tummel.
Schiehallion is sometimes described as the centre of Scotland. The justification is that the line of latitude midway between the most northerly and southerly points on the Scottish mainland, and the line of longitude midway between the most easterly and westerly points, intersect very near the summit of Schiehallion.
The path is a relativley simple 1... overall time to the top was 2hrs 45 mins, decent, under 2 hours. It was a cloudy, dreek day, tho not raining. A popular hill there was plenty of people on the top as well.
My feet were a bit sore from Nevis the day before, but the climb was a simple 1. I stayed at the top and enjoyed some good views albeit the cloudy weather. - A very rocky hill at the top - 3554 Feet High.
So I was back after an absence of 25 years, and had some fun. despite the rather poor show of clouds! LOL
