Schiehallion Climb - Tues 5th June 2012

Image
So the day after Ben Nevis I packed my tent up after a good nights sleep and headed East towards Dalwhinnie from Fort William for around about a 67 mile drive to Tummel Bridge. The Sat Nav was required here and took me lets just say a direct route over some far flung county roads... [caption id="attachment_1000" align="aligncenter" width="277"] Schiehallion - Half Way Up: A bleak, Dreek Day![/caption] After about an hour and a half I got to Tummel Bridge and went into a local shop to get some supplies and gain my thoughts on where I was. A short drive towards Aberfeldy, found me onto the Schielhallion Road, and 2 miles later I was in the car park which to my sup prise, at 1030am was nearly full.... Again clearly this is a popular hill...! LOL Many of your reading this will ask why travel x amount of miles across Scotland to do this from where I was yesterday. - The reason is that this was the 1st ever Munro I did, back in 1987 with the 1st Mauchline, 34th...

Ben Nevis- 4th June 2012 :- Updated/ Photos

So the tents packed up and I am heading West, firstly a blog on yesterday. I was up early and after getting some supplies and getting changed, I walked from the campsite to the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre at the base of Ben Nevis for my 4th Accent of 'the big yin'... I was hoping for some views on my 4th attempt, and I wasnt to be disappointed... [caption id="attachment_984" align="aligncenter" width="614"] Sun Shinning at base of Ben Nevis![/caption] Started the climb at 11am.. Many of you reading this have probably done it before. Its not the most exciting of climbs initally, IMHO it was bloody busy, well what would you expect- the sun was shinning and it was a Bank Holiday!.. I took the normal route up with a plan to divert of the normal tourist track further up. The climb is actually very easy, the worst thing it getting overtaken by nutters running up or getting caught behind some auld dear. 2 things amazed me- The amount of people taking their...

Ben Nevis. Day1. Mon Morning

Well morning. Naturally not the best sleep. Prob seen every hour last night in that tent. It's been a while. Ie 15 years ... Haha. Looks like a note to myself is to buy an air bed. - and not use the kids sleeping bag. - was a bit wee. Any way I still got a sleep. Was freezing last night and talking to lady in local shop she said it was just above freezing last night. Lol - wonder why I was cold. Went for a pee at 5 am and I was amazed how many people were up and about. Glen Nevis camp site is bloody busy. Went back to sleep and got up at 730. Showered and refreshed I'm sitting on a picnic table with a coffee and a very large roll and sausage. That was demolished quickly. Blogging then getting organised. Catch u later. Fantastic weather here ATM. Hope it stays like this.

Fort William/Ben Nevis- 4th June 2012- Arrival

Image
Drove up this afternoon from Ayr, when it was a bit grey. Decided to head north for 3 nights camping, initally at Glen Nevis camp site then heading west on Tues morning to near Aberfeldy. Really nice drive up past Loch Lomond and drove into Fort William... Of course Ive packed everything apart from any food, thinking I could nip into a Tesco once I arrived.. Of course its bloody shut.... Its a Sunday!. Different way of life up this way. So dinner was a chippy... Booked into Glen Nevis camp site. Ive decided to stay here 2 nights instead of the 1.. Means I can get up mega early on tues before deciding to move on... So tents up.... Went for a nosey about Fort William. Seems to be full of weans oot their face. Not my scene.... So grabbed some supplies from a local Spar and headed back to the camp site.... Early night for me. Ben Nevis climb in the morning..

Image
Up early this morning to take kids and their 2 pals Callum and Jamie for a long walk. We all grabbed the guns and decided that we were going hunting for zombies. After 3 miles we are at Catrine House. They are all playing on the swings trampoline etc. I'm blogging on my phone, having a coffee chilling on the veranda.   Video of Monster Foot prints:

2012 Mauchline Holy Fair

Image
Been a good weekend at the start of my holiday from work for a week. Yesterday was the local village fair, which attracts around 5-6000 people to the village for a day of fun, activities, stalks, entertainment all in the name of Rabbie Burns! We were looking after Callum and Jamie, our kids pals while their mum and dad are away enjoying a celebration for their 10th wedding anv. Great day yest. Sun shinned, and kids had plenty of fun in the magic tent, on the shows and around Mauchline. After dinner we took them out for a walk and then settled down to watch a film. - eventually they fell asleep by nearly mid night ! Lol.

Fri Date Night

Image
Morning. Well I'm still in my bed. About to get up. It's a Saturday. I am normally in work. Well had been for the last 7. So this feels good lol. Nice night in Ayr last night. Went to a place called Saffys for dinner. Then around a few places for a drink. Bumped into @jennired and @swer with whom I've shared many a conversation on T. - such a small world. Was delighted to meet them. Got last bus back then Maryann wants to go into our local (ironically it's cocktail night..). - So I'm sitting drinking mohitos in Mauchline. Doesn't seen right lol. ! Then up the road. Was a good night, first been out for a while. Full on day today. It's the local Holly Fair today here Hope stays dry. Kids got Jamie and Callum coming up for a sleep over and meeting my Dutch aunt and uncle. So Happy Saturday !!
