Galloway ReCycle Sportive - 10th August 2013
Months ago I signed up for this on the back of the Graham Obree Sportive the previous Sunday. This involved over 102 miles around south-west Scotland, Dumfries and Galloway starting in Kirkcubright, an area of the land Ive not been in much been in so was much looking forward to.
Video: I appear in orange top at 7mins 7sec lol :
So the morning came, and I was up at 515 am, leaving at 6am as it was at least a 70 mile drive across a number of B roads, to get there for 730/45am for Registration.
Got there at 745am, registered in the Church Hall to a very welcoming crowd. I knew around 250 people were doing this, either the 102 or 68 mile option, so it was busy.
Very well organised, set off at 830am for a run around the area, towards Castle Douglas, Gatehouse of Fleet, New Galloway, outskirts of Newton Stewart, - I set off with a grit in the teeth. this was my first ton, timed.
The run was very well Marshalled and plenty of foot at the 3x 30mile markers. - what more could you ask for. The weather was in my favour until into the Galloway Hills for the 2nd time in a week. A bit of rain but was most refreshing.
At 89 miles I stopped due to a FUCKING puncture. FIRST on that bike of mine since April and 2000+ Miles. had to happen. Special thanks to the Marshall who lent me his track pump.
Finished the run just before 4pm to a very welcome cheer, and a warm bowl of soup and food in the church hall. - tell you was well spoilt and a great end to a most enjoyable and first +100 mile Sportive for myself.
A great Day Out. Defo back next year. -
