October Road Trip -Wedding in Farnham 20th October 2012

So a week after Deacon Blue we had another road trip this time a kind wedding invitation courtesy of Maryann's cousin Kathryn and her Husband to be Justin. This has been planned for months as the wedding was in Farnham, Surrey, some 42 miles south-west of London. From where we live just short of 500 miles. So a well planned trip was organised.

We booked our hotel months ago, I was ordered to get a new suit, and we also decided to hire a motor, as my old reliable might not be so reliable. lol… Everything was in place, days off work booked and as such, we were ready to go pretty sharp on the friday morning.

I went at 8am to pick the hire car up from Enterprise, and it wasn't ready. -So before the grey clouds came in the Manager upgraded us FOC to a nice new Ford Galaxy 12 plate. All the mod cons, cruise control iPod connectivity bluetooth blah. So we were set for a nice comfy journey down.

So we set off just before 10am and headed for the border. M6, M5, M4, M3 and a pile of back roads, and thanks to my faith in Apples Maps app we arrived at our hotel just after 5pm. A nice journey down with no major hold ups.

We dumped the bags, freshened up and went to explore Farnham - A very English tradition town, if its a town. Bloody big and the traffic. OMG. LOL. Obv we found a pub then another then a few more. We 'researched' our surroundings in the Queens Head and as usual I growled at the bar maid looking at my Scottish money like something from eastern europe. We knew we had a busy day Sat, as it was an early wedding so we headed for dinner at a brilliant small italian called Caffe Piccolo - Great service and value and defo a great venue. We explored another couple of pubs before heading back to our hotel, and an early night.

The wedding was at Cain Manor, some 8 miles from where we were staying and was due to kick off around 1230pm. -So suited and booted we sorted a taxi and headed to the venue. Bumped into Maryann's Uncle Tam and Aunt Franny and settled into what was to be a fantastic day ………

After the ceremony we headed out into the garden as the wedding photos were being taken… a few glasses of bubbly and caught up with some of MA's relations. Later we had the meal and plenty o free booze kicking abbot lol.. Fantastic beautiful meal, 1 of the best I've sampled at a wedding in many a year.

The wedding was all contained in the same place, so we retreated to the garden again as the evening reception was set up. A brilliant swing band was the order of the evening and lets just say every1 had fun. I made an erse of myself falling off a chair but apart from that not too bad lol….

By this time to say we were both very merry, was an understatement. but we sorted a taxi and went back to Farnham, after what had been a fantastic beautiful day. The warmest of congratulations to Kathryn and Justin, and thanks for letting us be part of your special day.

We went back into Farnham for 1 last drink, but as I was coming   down the stairs from the loo in a pub I slipped and took a header down the stairs and hurt my back. That was our queue to go home. - LOL

Woke up at 8am on sunday morning still wearing my suit with my trousers around my ankles. tut tut. hungover a bit. - Notably we missed breakfast and later decided that obi I was not in any fit state to drive so we waited until well into the afternoon before we even thought of going hoe. After a well deserved McD's and a squirrel watching me scoff my lunch we decided to start the long journey home…… 8 hours later we were back and an early night was had.

End to a fantastic weekend and 1 of the best weddings Ive been to in a long time !.
