London Day 3: Saturday 7th April 2012
As I write this I've 4 hours plus to kill so thought well why not catch up on my blog on day 3 and 4 of London.
Today started very early for me anyway. I decided to do a solo trip to St Paul's Cathedral and based on my calculations I left at 730am. Place opened at 830am.
I got their quite sharp. Back of 8am. A coffee from Costa, and I sat on the steps of St Paul's, and enjoyed the silence. Bliss. Place was silent. Great 20 mins lol .. Haha.
My London pass got me access to the cathedral and access to the whispering gallery and above. I am at home doing stuff like this, enjoying the audio guide, emersing myself in the history and magical architecture.... The whispering gallery opened at 930am and I walked up to the top. They say it's 257 steps to the top. I counted 255. Obviously I am wrong lol. Haha. I got some great photos of the London skyline albeit it being very cloudy.
I had arranged to meet MA and the kids outside St Paul's then we were going to go and meet Karyn and Scott and the girls at the London Eye for an 11am ride up and down.
We decided to cross the Millennium Bridge where I thought there was an underground obviously there wasn't one lol. After a mad 10 min dash we found 1, and it was onto Waterloo and we got to the London Eye in the nick of time lol.
This was the families first visit, my 2nd. We had a great 30 mins seeing the London sky line from above, pointing them all out to the kids. Scott ain't very good with heights and I had fun reminding him on more than 1 occasion.
After this we decided that after lunch we would all go to the Natural History Museum and off we went to Gloucester Road underground. After lunch in KFC we joined another queue. After we finally got in we went around some of the exhibits and the kids seemed to have a ball.
By this time it was 3pm and we had to say good bye to our guests - Scott, Karyn and the kids - Caitlin and Zoe. We all had a great time hooking up and we said our goodbyes and they were on their way home to Hinckley...
We then decided what to do next. We walked up towards Kensington Gardens and the boys had an ice-cream. We still had some credit on the passes and decided to visit the newly refurbished Kensington Palace. This was pretty special.
We got to see Diana's story and a fascinating insight into the early life of Queen Victoria. The kids were also well entertained with some interactive exhibits then Euan was more interested in finding the play park.
By this time it was well after 5pm. Kids were playing, I walked out the park to see if I could find the underground. Lol. Well I did. Via the pub. 1 pint of London Pride was quickly dispatched then we were on the move again this time to Harrods in Knightsbridge.
We weren't in long. Was more just so kids could say they had been. They weren't really impressed. They were more interested getting to Regents Street - and Hamleys haha.
We arrived around 7pm. MA and the kids were in till it shut at 8pm. - a full hour. ! Both got presents as they had been good all day.
During the 1hr visit I went down a side street. And found a pub again. Predictable eh?
So there was a clear agreement that dinner was now required. We went into Covent Garden on the way home and had a nice Italian in a place called Pasta Browns.
Then it was home. All shattered but very happy with our days achievements. 15 hour day for me in London and 1 of those good day outs you always remember ..... Yaldi.
