LEJOG Day 8 (or 7 1/2 !)
After yesterday's rather catistrophic malfunction I awoke very early in my bed having pretty much a sleepless night.
I have been overwhelmed with the support on this trip for Cancer Research. After what happened on Arran, people had offered to get bike parts to the ferry. To be brought over and after I was home I was offered about 6 different bikes to finish the job. - Amazing.
Part of me being honest thought that this trip was over, and as I sit typing this at my digs in Fort Augustus, I'm glad to report I got alone of a 2nd bike through some Glasgow contacts.
On Sunday morning I repacked my stuff and headed up to Glasgow and picked up a Ridgeback Hybrid. Converted back to the pannier, and got myself ready and I was off.
Headed out the familiar cycle path by the union canal, out towards Balloch. - by now it started raining. Heavy. And it took me a little while to get used to the new bike. Mental. Felt so slow as Im used to a road bike.
Took the Loch Lomond cycle path up to Tarbet where I crawled in for a coffee and to shelter out the rain.
This weather wasn't going to get better I had planned to stop at Crianlarich, and made some good time getting there. By now it had at least stopped raining. - decided to stay at Tyndrum, a short 6 miles up the road.
Went to book into bunkhouse and I was served by a guy myself and Neil met on train to Oban, who was wild camping on Barra last nov. We cycled the Western Isles then and went for dinner with him. Small world. ...(sadly I've forgotten his name lol!
Got there. Dryed off. And went across to the pub for a 1 celebration that this adventure was at least back in track.
In bed by 10pm. In a room to myself. Great wee place. And a good turnaround to the black day on Arran.
