Netherlands - Day 6 :Weekend of Fun - Saturday
This morning I was wakened by Jean-Paul (JP) at 430am. - I was kind enough to be invited on a goose hunt with him. JP is a keen hunter and has all the gear, licenses and training, and along with Hans Jnr, go very often to German on arranged trips. This mornings early rise was local, and along with Floyd his young hunt dog, involved us meeting up with his friend Klaas, and several other non- dual english speaking friends for a few hours very early sat morning run out.
I had my green camouflage jacket and had on, and merely spectated. - It was a beautiful morning and I sat in silence, as there is only an opening normaly 6-8am when the geese fly overhead where we were. To be honest it was very quiet, the still wind meant the geese were quite high, but Klaas and JP managed to get a couple. - I was also given the opportunity to fire a shot into the air from his gun, which showed you it had a hell of a kick.
1 of the other party had hit a goose that had fallen into a near by field. What I was about to witness was the training and dedication that JP shows in his training with Floyd. Floyd, JP and 1 of the other party entered the large field and I followed. - Floyd tracked it over a small distance and in a short time caught the injured goose and delivered it to his master. - fascinating !
Afterwords, around 8am we 6 retired to a cabin for a couple of jagermisters, and I listened intently to 5 guys gabbing aloud in dutch, was very humorous…
We arrived back at the house at around 11am, and I then had my full on day part 2. - This was to involve a 90km cycle with what I will term a semi pro, on his 8.5kilo full carbon road bike. - Wim. (Cousin Gwens BF). After a bit to eat we headed out on a route he had loaded into his garmin and enjoyed a 67km run, (cut short due to me probably not keeping up and having to get back for the BBQ). We passed some very nice scenery during the day, had late lunch in a nice place, and got back to the house around 530pm. Wim was probably never out of first gear, probably never broke a sweat, but during our run I got an insight into how these guys cycle, performance, ability, was fascinating. ;)
Sat evening was the icing on the cake to a great day. Our hosts were having a BBQ, with the full family, - all 16 of us and we had a great evening, full of laughter and cheer, and took some photos that I am sure will be looked back on with fond memories as the clans came together for the first time in a decade, with the next generation ;).
By 10pm, (remember I had been on the go since 430am) - I was ready for bed…… and Sunday was to be a repeat of Saturday…..
